How much to pay?

Ah the age old question – how much is it worth? The best way to start thinking about how much you want to pay for an odd job you’re about to post on Jobba is to consider how much you think your own time is worth, because that’s what you’re trading!

Still a bit tricky to figure out? Keep these points in mind when you’re putting a price on your odd job…

  • From April 2023, minimum wage in New Zealand will be $22.70 an hour, so that’s a pretty good starting point!
  • If the job you need doing requires some special skills, tools, or equipment, you’ll probably want to pay a bit more.
  • Jobba is best used for “odd jobs” rather than anything that you need a qualified tradie for. Odd jobs are generally pretty cheap and quick. If you need a qualified tradesperson, you’re probably not going to find them on Jobba.

While we can’t put a price on what your time’s worth, we can give you a bit of guidance if you’re still not sure!

  • The average cost of getting your house cleaned is about $25 an hour, and most people need 2-3 hours for an average sized house
  • Getting your lawns mowed varies by size, but the average cost of a lawn mow is around $40, or a bit more if you need the person to provide their own mower
  • General weeding and garden tidy-up jobs tend to be around $22 an hour
  • If you need something removing/delivering (for example dropping stuff at the dump or taking to an op-shop), about $25 is a pretty good shout
  • Need flat-pack assembling, clothes ironing or mending, or something fixing? The cost really depends on the size of the job, but $50 is a good starting point for something that might take a couple of hours!
